Name: Ryan
Shreve
Age: 1979-2003 died at 23 yrs old
Occupation: Firefighter / Paramedic
for El Dorado Hills Fire Dept. He liked to tell girls
when he first met them that he was a waste disposal
dump truck driver, to see if they were stidking around
for the right reasons and to mess with them
Born where: So. Lake Tahoe
Who are you sponsors: Surf and Skate, and
Malibu
Beer or booze: Old
E (crib juice 40's) Budweiser, King Cobra 40's
Worst injury/worst fall: Senior
year of high school, 1997 he was playing speed ball
(a game he invented that was a full contact field
sport) and was tackled by a guy with a nickname "Monster" who
outweighed Ryan 60 pounds. Broken clavicle, followed
by surgery. Same surgeon as mine, and some good friends'
dad, Dr. Terry Oar. Ryan found himself more than
once in Dr. Oar's office getting x-rays for various
skiing, snowboarding and climbing injury's. One day
he was out wakeboarding with the. Dr's kids and his
wakeboard hit him in the head. They pulled the boat
right up into the Oar's backyard, boat dock, and
threw Ryan up on the dining table and Dr. Oar stiched
him up, set the table and had dinner. Dining room
table/ surgery table!
Hardest trick to learn: Ryan's hardest
trick was the scarecrow, which he was trying to master,
the day he was injured. It was his last trick
What is your set up: He rode regular
What got you started in the
sport: Ryan had two friends, Chris and
Matt Lucas who lived down the street from the Oar's
and they are all responsible for pulling his interest
away from climbing (an individual sport) and introducing
him to warm water, friends, sunny days and competitive
riding

big wall climbing, skiing, backcountry hiking and
skiing, search and rescue, eagle boyscout, firefighter/paramedic,
playing the guitar, to name a few hobby's
Who inspires you for riding? All
of Ryan's friends and the guys on the surf and skate
team inspired and pushed Ryan. Scott and Andrea,
Dave Ward, the pros, Brian Austerman
Who do you admire? He admired his
little sister, for God knows what, but he told me
and our friends everyday how proud he was and how
much he loved me. It was deffinitly mutal. He admired
Donnie Lawrence for his sense of humor and loyalty,
as well as Mitch Underhill his climbing partner and
best friend since second grade. Some pioneer climbers
that put first ascent routes on the big walls of
Yosemite valley, Jim Bridwell, Paul Crawford, Dan
Osmond. His number one hero was his ultimate best
friend of 23 years, his dad Mike Shreve. Pops was
his ski coach, boy scout leader, youth pastor, and
mentor. If you haven't met or seen my dad, he is
a bigger exact replica of Ryan, in personality, physical
looks, and skill ability at every sport and success
in life. They were two peas in a pod. Ryan adored
maums - mama shreve, Dawn. They were wired emotionally
the same and had a connection that was unexplainable.
He adored and protected her and most of all loved
her unconditionally.

Ace Ventura, 1 & 2, Old School
Piercings of tatoos: Neither, just scars

fallen leaf lake, Shasta on houseboat trips
If you wakeboard what boat
do you use: Ryan owned a Malibu but enjoyed
a Nautique also

Craziest thing you have ever
eaten: In my opinion, McDonalds. He would
eat it and then complain how tore up he was, and
believe me, we all suffered. He was a very picky
eater, so nothing exotic
